What a busy and fun week it has been!
After the heavy wildfire smoke we’ve been dealing with lately, I think the biggest blessing of the week has simply been looking up and seeing blue skies again.
Praise be to God!
After days of red skies, falling ash, and air that made you want to stay inside, seeing that beautiful blue overhead and breathing fresh air again has felt like such a gift. We can so quickly take something as simple as a clear blue sky for granted.
This week, we definitely haven’t.
The Garlic Is Finally Ready
Our garlic finally finished curing, which meant it was time to get everything cleaned up and ready for storage.
I trimmed it, cleaned off the extra dirt, and got it put away so we can use it throughout the coming year.
With the amount of garlic we use around here, I’m pretty sure none of it will go to waste!

20 Bales and the “Baby Truck”
The funniest sight of the week might have been my husband picking up hay.
We lovingly refer to his commuter truck as his “baby truck.” It’s not exactly the vehicle you’d look at and think, “Yep, let’s go haul a bunch of hay in that.”
But apparently my husband saw no problem.
Believe it or not, he managed to fit 20 bales of hay in the back of that little truck.
Twenty.
It was quite the sight and definitely gave all of us a good laugh.
But if there’s one thing I know about that man, it’s that where there’s a will, there’s a way. If he decides something is going to fit, one way or another, it’s going to fit.
Who needs a big farm truck when you’ve got determination and some creative stacking?

A Day With Friends
Yesterday I did something that had absolutely nothing to do with gardening, preserving food, cleaning the house, or taking care of animals, and it was wonderful.
I spent the entire day with a few of my friends exploring some new places that some of us had never been to before.
We laughed. We explored. We ate. We talked. And then we laughed some more.
It was just FUN.
We’ve decided to make an effort to do something like this together once a month, and I’m already looking forward to our next adventure.
I highly recommend finding one day a month to spend with your friends. Life is busy. There will always be laundry waiting, chores that need to be done, and another project on the list.
Sometimes you need to leave it all for a day and go laugh with your friends.
The chores will still be there when you get home. I promise.

Getting Ready for Another Homeschool Year
And just like that, we’re getting close to another school year.
This weekend, I’m hoping to turn my attention toward getting the house back in order before we begin homeschooling again.
That means purging, cleaning, organizing, and probably wondering why we own half the things I find along the way.
I love starting a new homeschool year with the house feeling organized and everything in its place. Will it stay that way once school actually starts?
Absolutely not.
But at least we’ll start strong!
A new school year always feels like a fresh start, and I want to head into it feeling prepared rather than scrambling.
Enjoying the Season We’re In
Summer isn’t over yet, but you can definitely feel the season beginning to shift.
The garden is producing, food is being preserved, hay is being hauled (apparently by whatever vehicle is available), and we’re starting to prepare for the rhythm of another homeschool year.
And after the smoke we’ve experienced, I’m especially grateful this week for something I normally wouldn’t think twice about:
A blue sky.
It’s often the simplest things that remind us just how blessed we really are.
Here’s to another week of homestead life, and hopefully plenty more blue skies ahead.
“This is the day the Lord has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it.” — Psalm 118:24
From our homestead to yours,
Eliza
