This week has looked a little different than most around the homestead.
Instead of spending our days in the garden or tending animals, we’ve packed up the car and traveled through seven states with our son as we make our way to Mason, Michigan, for the USA High School Clay Target League National Championship.
It’s been a long journey, but one filled with excitement and anticipation.
By the time you’re reading this, we’ll be getting ready to watch him compete. Watching him work hard over the past couple of years and earn the opportunity to compete on a national stage has been an incredible blessing. No matter how the weekend unfolds, we’re so proud of him!
Holding Down the Homestead
One thing about homestead life is that the chores don’t stop just because you’re traveling.
Thankfully, our oldest son has stepped in to keep everything running while we’re away. He’s taking care of all the animals, making sure everyone is fed, watered, and cared for until we return.
It’s times like this that we are reminded of just how much our kids have grown. Seeing them step up and take responsibility gives us peace of mind while we’re miles from home.
Our Daughter’s Summer Adventure
While we’re cheering on one child in Michigan, our daughter has been enjoying an adventure of her own.
She’s spending the week at youth camp with our church, making memories, growing in her faith, and enjoying time with friends.
By the time camp wraps up this weekend, our oldest will be there to pick her up and make sure she’s settled back in at home until we arrive.
Looking Forward
As exciting as this trip has been, we’re looking forward to getting back home to the familiar sounds of the homestead: the chickens, ducks, goats, and pigs.
Home has a way of calling you back.
For now, though, we’re soaking up every moment of this experience with our son. Opportunities like this don’t come around every day, and we’re thankful to be here cheering him on.
We’d appreciate your prayers this weekend as he competes. More than anything, we pray he stays calm, enjoys the experience, shoots with confidence, and remembers just how proud we are of him.
